Losing Youth (link to poem)
by Meiko
Author's note:
I took the challenge to write a poem, and my theme is youth. I emphasized the
fear of becoming an adult. I referred to "What is a youth," a song of
the movie of Romeo and Juliet in 1968. Though my poem is not about love,
I tried to express the evanescence of the song. I want to improve the
rhythm and rhyme of my poem. I hope you enjoy it!
This is a course of free personal expression and creative writing at International Christian University in Tokyo. Each member of the class is an "author" with freedom to choose any theme, genre, format, and length they feel will be meaningful for them. The goal is to develop life-long writers who use English not only as a tool for professions, but as a way for self-expression that can connect and communicate with readers all over the world. Meiko,
ReplyDeleteI liked it how you had questions in you poem.
Becoming an adult is I think a theme that we all at some point think about, especially now when we are about to become 20.
I was able to read your poem smoothly and I liked the comfortable rhythm.
Thanks Uka :)
ReplyDeleteI really glad to recieve a reader's comment.
and I'm happy that you liked its rhythm!
My favorite part is the last few lines.
ReplyDeleteWhat is youth?
Is it only dreaming time?
A limited spring?
How scared it ends IN THE NEAR future
We fear to lose youth
How true!
Now that I am not really young or in youth anymore, I guess my feeling is...use your youth (before you start a family, anyway) to put yourself in a variety of sceneries and meet a large variety of people, even if you have to risk some things or borrow money to do that.
